Manchester United Legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that David De Gea’s performance against Liverpool was the best goalkeeping display he has seen at Old Trafford.
This is particularly impressive praise considering the Norwegian played alongside Peter Schmeichel while he was in his playing days at the Red Devils. The former striker also played alongside Edwin Van der Sar in his time at the Mancunian club, making the praise even higher.
The 24-year-old managed to make a string of amazing saves including with highlights including stopping gilt edged chances taken by Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli. His performance has been widely seen as the reason why the Red Devils were able to beat their Merseyside rivals.
“I’ve seen quite a few [outstanding performances] with the goalkeepers I’ve played with in [Peter] Schmeichel and [Edwin] Van der Sar but today was probably the best one I’ve seen at Old Trafford from a United goalkeeper,” he told Sky Sports.
“He saves them. There’s six clear-cut chances that should have been goals. He stands up, David Seaman was the same. He makes it very difficult to score against him.”
The Spain international will be hoping his great form can continue in to the rest of the season as his team look more and more likely to finish in the top four and make it in to next year’s Champions League
