Manchester City have become the latest side to register their interest in Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels.
The World Cup winner has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester United said to be leading the way.
Manuel Pellegrini has identified Hummels as a potential replacement for captain Vincent Kompany, who hobbled off with a hamstring injury in the weekend’s victory over Leicester.
With youngster Matija Nastasic close to completing a move to Italian giants Inter Milan, the Premier League champions may have to enter the transfer market should Kompany be sidelined for at least a month.
Summer addition Eliaquim Mangala has struggled to adapt to English conditions since his arrival, and Hummels would provide some much needed stability in the City back line.
Manchester United and Arsenal are both keen to sign the 25-year-old, and any offer from City could spark a bidding war between the trio.
It looks as though Hummels is one of the most wanted transfer targets for the January transfer window, and it could prove to be one of the most interesting ever.
